After the Fearless freaks thread, I just had to pay my respects to this guy, as an animal lover myslef, he was wonderful. He'd make you laugh out loud just listening to him rather than what he had to say. Such a shame. He has kids and a wife too. From OZ too, don't know if any of the Stateside people know him. RIP Steve, thanks for doing a loada good for the animals around the world whilst you were alive here on Earth. God bless. Spence

I think I've seen a documentary explaining his work with the crocodiles on a french channel

Apparently, he was bitten by a simple fish (a stingray). Strange death for a man who used to play with big crocodiles...

God bless him.

Didn't realize who that was until I read your descriptions - I loved that guy and was always riveted by his appearances on Letterman and Leno...wow, sad and terrible news that I hadn't heard...

Yes, God bless him

Wow, after years of watching his show, where he wrangled with huge, angry crocs and picked up many of the world's most deadly snakes, I sure wouldn't have expected he'd meet his demise from some relatively benign creature like a stingray. Best wishes to his widow and children as they deal with his loss. He'll be missed.

I've written about Steve Irwin's death in today's Irish Times. So if you are in Ireland or a major British or European city go buy a copy! If you have access to the website (you need a subscription) it's at http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/world/2006/0905/1156791398774.html
