Kev, did you watch the one where the Huskers play the Joan Rivers talk show? It's so surreal watching the three of them getting interviewed by one of America's most obnoxious media hacks. Notice that Grant seems to be the ham of the group.

just watched it kurt, great performance.
did she often have great groups on, or was it just one of these great tv moments where there was no logic to it? like in the UK, Jimi Hendrix played live on The Lulu show, or T Rex played The Cilla Black Show. These were both prime time middle of the road TV showcases for bland songstresses.

I don't know; I never watched her show. But since she had Husker Du on, I'm guessing she or her producers were trying to book hipper stuff than the norm. In those days in the States, the mainstream chat shows didn't book "underground" acts, which the Huskers were considered, even after signing to Warners.

Nowadays, indie bands are all over the place on chat shows, of which we have about 10 times more of now than we did in the late '80s.

Thanks for the links Kevin. While I wouldn't equate Lulu with Cilla Black, the juxtaposition of edgy music artists and impossibly clueless TV hosts is one of the few glories of TV imho. I've always wanted to see the infamous Tom Snyder interview of Johnny Rotten.

Some of that Husker Du stuff is fantastic. Seeing them at the Electric Ballroom in around 1983 remains one of my greatest gig memories ever.

This one seems to particularly capture the mood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq_TowFGLU8
What I always loved was the way there was no break between songs just one into the other with a bit of feedback and yet the pace of the show was always brilliantly judged building up and up into a frenzy. Chartered Trips what a great song which I can't find featured in these You Tube vids.
