Lindy gave a “touching tribute" to Grant's life in August at the 2006 Australian Songwriters Awards Night: http://www.westleagues.com.au/online/Default.asp?DeptID=86 (although the website didn’t correctly spell Grant’s last name)

2006 Australian Songwriters Awards Night

On Thursday 10th August 2006, Wests Ashfield Leagues hosted the 26th Australian Songwriters Association (ASA) National Songwriting Awards Night. The function was attended by many well-known Australian music personalities including Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles and Graeham Goble of Little River Band fame, Martin Plaza and Greedy Smith (Mental As Anything), Denny Burgess, Colin Burgess and Glen Wheatley (Masters Apprentices), Lindy Morrison (The Go-Betweens), Little Pattie, Dinah Lee, as well as ABC personality Mike Bailey and ASA patron and local MP, Virginia Judge.

The ASA is Australia’s premier association for songwriters. It aims to encourage, develop and support the art of songwriting throughout Australia. The ASA holds its annual National Songwriting Competition as the highlight of its annual activities, and presents awards to the category winners, as well as the prestigious Songwriter of the Year Award.

Once again, the ASA selected Wests Ashfield Leagues as its venue of choice for the Awards Night. Wests Ashfield Leagues and the ASA have had a cordial relationship over many years, and this year, the Awards night was attended by Wests Ashfield Leagues Directors and their partners, including Chairman, Peter Hardgrove and General Manager, Andy Timbs.

During the course of the evening, Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles and Graeham Goble were inducted into the ASA Songwriters Hall of Fame. Following the induction ceremony, they performed a medley of some of their most famous songs, including Reminiscing, Long Way There and Help Is On Its Way to a standing ovation.

Martin Plaza and Greedy Smith gave an amusing and cheeky interview to music writer Bernie Howitt, following which they performed some of Mental As Anything’s greatest hits, including The Nips Are Getting Bigger and Too Many Times.

Once again we were privileged to have the Sandra Malone-Hawthorne dancers at the night to perform another of their wonderful displays.

The night also paid tribute to noted musicians who had passed away during the year, Pete Wells (Rose Tattoo) and Grant McClennan (The Go-Betweens). Lindy Morrison gave a touching tribute to the life of Grant McClennan.

Once again, the ASA wishes to thank Wests Ashfield Leagues for its hospitality and for its assistance in making this year’s Awards Night an outstanding success.
