I can't believe how accurately this reflects my experience of cities, right down to the choice of sandwich!

Hey! They're making fun of us! I wasn't in another city but following one of my most recent pilgrimages to Amoeba, I stopped at a place to buy a smoothie and while they were mixing it up I sat down at a table and happily tore open the packaging on an anthology to read the annotations. Gotta love the Feelies plug.

Yeah, I do love the Feelies plug. But the MO of the person in the story is so accurate to me it's spooky! I was also not in a different city on Monday, just a different part of Sydney, and my five-year-old was so patient while I was trawling through record shops that I rewarded her (and myself) with a big gelato afterwards. I went through the CDs in the gelateria too to make sure I'd been given the right discs. Later on I was hoping to go into two other record stores but both were closed as it was a holiday in most of Australia. My daughter literally whooped for joy and danced a jig of happiness upon finding them both closed! She loves music; record shops not so much!

I have to admit that when I am travelling, I do check on the Internet to find the closest second hand CD shop to where I am staying.

However, there are less and less shops secondhand places these days, it seems. I recall the fantastic places I found in the US in the eighties and nineties with absolute nostalgia.
Randy, everytime you mention Amoeba, I'm envious.

A "smoothie" is a cold drink made out of fruits and other things run through a blender. The particular place I stopped at happens to be a raw vegan joint so the ingredients were exclusively raw fruit or vegetable but more normally a certain amount of egg and sometimes even cream will be used as a binder. And, no, I'm not a vegan.

A "gelato" is an italian ice cream. Or, at least that's what it is in the U.S.. Padraig?
