I rented the Nick Cave-penned Outback western, The Proposition (excellent, btw, if you like good, bloody shoot-em ups) and it made me wonder: has Cave said anything publicly about Grant's passing? Of course it's his business - he may not want to talk about it - I'm just curious. I really hadn't seen anything. They were, I'm led to believe, fairly close at one point, having been roomies. Didn't Grant kick him out for his junkie ways? |

I don't think Grant would've kicked Nick out for his junkie ways. |

There's an interview of Nick Cave by Grant floating around on the Internet. In it Nick alludes to Grant throwing him out of his apartment, if I remember correctly. |

Here's the interview: http://www.jturner.dircon.co.uk/gb/gm&nc.htm Was Cave at Grant's funeral? |

Hopefully, Nick didn't hold a grudge that Grant had "stolen" the one good song out of Nick's old guitar--"Cattle and Cane." |

That was a great interview - you can tell, amidst all the friendly rivalry, the high regard they held each other in. And, I love the bit about stealing the one good song from the guitar. It shows that, even to great songwriters like them, the process is a complete mystery. |

Poor Nick got stolen from a lot by the Go-Betweens! There's that great story in David's book about how Lindy found Nick's stash of H lying around in the kitchen and used it. By the way, I read many accounts of Grant's funeral, and not one mentioned Nick Cave being in attendance. |

Hey looky there, Kurt - you're exactly 200 posts behind me...oops, make that 201... Poor Nick - usually you just have to deal with roommates eating your yogurt or drinking all your beer... Maybe Nick is still harboring a grudge over being tossed out in the cold. Such a thing would be hurtful, I'd imagine. |

It's easy--just start 37 new threads! Who likes <artist>? x 37 Of course, if you do it that way, we'd have to put an asterisk by your 1,000 posts. |

Hey, good strategy...Not sure I could think of that many bands, though. When I came out with, "Who likes Right Said Fred?" people would know the jig was up! Don't want no asterisks, either...Btw, the rumors that I've written all my posts while on human growth hormone are largely untrue. |

From what I could see, Cave wasn't at the funeral. Though given the way he looks now, I probably wouldn't have been able to recognise him! |

Sounds like a description I can agree with - it's definitely a great novelty song - way better than "How much is that doggie in the window?" but maybe a few notches behind "Troglodyte" by the Jimmy Castor Bunch. Definitely fun to sing along to... Completely unrelated subject: how close do you live to Brisbane, Padraig? Reading about people's visits to Grant's haunts makes me wanna go myself and pay my respects. I'd even drink a Long Island Tea at that bar he frequented, though I don't really like them... Maybe I could corral some of my 'Murican pals like Kurt and Randy and Jeff and form a delegation. Any interest, Kurt? |

I'm in Sydney LK. It's 1000 ks south (625 miles). I'll do my best to get up to Brisbane when you guys make it over. I presume you'd be in Sydney too though? |

I'll come up with rough Go-Betweens DIY tour of Brisbane when I bother to pull my finger out. There's a lot of things one could do, I'm just trying to think of the more interesting things you could do in Brisbane. |

So, you're in Brisbane, Donat? It's just a half-formed fantasy at this point, Padraig, but still something I'd really like to do. And, though a lot of the impetus would be to tour GBs-related sites, there'd also still be the desire to see the country in general, so Sydney would be essential, I'd think. This is further pipe dreaming, but maybe if enough of us went, we could get some management endorsement/participation - maybe meet a Go-Between or two - a Wilsteed, a Morrison, maybe a Forster... |

Andreas, you're innocent when you dream. You've got to always keep a diamond in your mind... You never know, it might just be an attainable goal...it is a great picture, isn't it? 20-30 GoBees obsessives, sloshed out of their minds on Long Island Teas, drunkenly singing "Bye Bye Pride" at the top of their lungs in GM's favorite bar...a good time would be had by all. Some kind of international incident would be sure to occur...at the least, a few arrests... |

I would say that wives and kids are definitely included. Some of us might not get "yard leave" to go otherwise! Australia's a big draw... Maybe for the pub crawling portion of the events the kids might be left behind, or do they allow children in pubs in Oz? They're quite tight-assed about in the US... Talking about this like it's a real thing, but hey, maybe that's the way to make it happen! |

I would imagine all the ex-Go-Betweens would go way out of their way to avoid the plague of obsessives as described by LK. Is there anything worse than a pack of (mostly) middle-aged fanboys? |

True that, Padraig...when I round up the other, what was Kurt's term, middle-aged fanboys, we'll have to hit Sydney, too...hey, K may have coined a new term: MAFB's...maybe if we convince Forster one of us is a MILF, he'll agree to meet with us! Even just going to Australia for its own sake, notwithstanding the GBs, Sydney seems pretty indispensable... |

If such a MAF trip ever come close to the final planning all ex-GoBees would make sure that this message board is closed instantly. LK, research shows that MILF also stands for Moro Islamic Liberation Front. But I am not sure whether that would strengthen the position regarding a meeting with RF and others |

A Go-Betweens tour of Brisbane and Sydney would be cool! I wonder how much plane tickets are from Detroit? I have contemplated going to a Twin Peaks Festival which are held yearly east of Seattle where the pilot was shot as well as the movie Fire Walk With Me. The series was shot in LA with a few remote original location shots of North Bend and Snoqualmie, WA. |

Good to see you on here Pete. Hardin's idea of a trip to Oz sounds great to me. I've been reading "Pig City" during some of my spare time here. But we'd definitely have to hit up Sydney and Melbourne too as they have such deep history as music cities. And each of us can spend his or her time quietly muttering "thank god I'm not as weird as the rest of these geeks!" |
