If nothing else, this board stands as a place where, whatever your obscure musical obsession, someone else here has heard of them, and what's more, they're probably a fan, too... So...anyone heard of Peter Blegvad? He certainly qualifies as obscure...He's great, though, and has been a frequent collaborator with Andy Partridge. I'm wondering what he's been up to lately, musically speaking. I've looked, online, for mention of any current projects, but have been unable to find anything... | ||

i know peter blegvad from his 'slapp happy' and 'henry cow' time. 'sort of' and 'ACNALBASAC NOOM' (or CASABLANCA MOON) are two fine, classical albums which everybody should -must- give a listen. but about his current work i do not know anything. | ||

I have his album Naked Shakespeare. It's okay. Has a few good songs on it (including the very Andy Partridge-esque 'Weird Monkeys' [Andy produced the album]) and a lot of self-indulgent drivel. The few good songs made the record worth the dollar I paid for it. I can't really comment on anything else he's done, though. | ||

Hmm. I'm not a fan, per se, of the overly indulgent, but the other stuff he's done speaks to me so strongly, I'd probably like it. His later albums that I have, "Just Woke Up" and "Choices Under Pressure" are fantastic, but they're relatively straightforward, folky and tuneful, with some pretty skewed lyrical concerns. Partridge collaborates a lot with him, and they both seem to share that quirky but incredibly poppy thing. | ||

I picked up a few of his albums ( Kew Rhone - with John Greaves; The Naked Shakespeare; Knights Like This; King Strut And Other Stories ) in the late 1980's and early 1990's. King Strut, which was released in 1990, was well received and got a lot of positive reviews but I don't think it sold well and he seemed to disappear from the music scene a short time later only to resurface in the mid 1990's. The Idiot-Dog website is a good source of information about him but there is very little current stuff on it. |
