I happened upon this jpeg this evening of a Go-Betweens live show from June of 1986. The set list is incredible: http://home.earthlink.net/~sjogren/images/20060506/gobetweens.jpg Just wondering if you guys have any advice on where to find recordings of vintage Go-Betweens live shows. I seem to remember somebody on this board a couple years ago that would not sell, but trade live tapes. What a great idea, but I never had anything to trade with him! For me the "Liberty Belle" era set lists are some of the most enticing. Thanks. |

The cassette on the picture. Oh, that show at Moderna Stockholm. The first show I saw with Amanda, who were just standing there, unintroduced, playing viola, guitar, oboe. Etc!!! I could just not understand how brilliant she was -- and nobody had told me before that the band had suddenly become a five piece... (this was long before internet rumours). I did not know there were recordings done... Strange fact: there were two bands on this evening, the other one was Red Guitars (do anyone remember them? I still have a 12" with Marimba Jive). Anyway, the bands supposedly flipped a coin and Go-Betweens started the evening, much to my disbelief. Red Guitars were not bad but I don't know if they had made even one album... |

Per, the Red Guitars had made at least one full length at that point, but, imho, it's painfully dull. |

Red Guitars, had two singers, I preferred the second one. Marimba Jive is w/ the original singer, not a bad party tune. They had one exceptional song, it's called "National Ave. (Sunday Afternoon)" but no way should they have headlined over the Go-Betweens, no comparison. They could be very plodding at times, especially considering the name. Cheers. |

The Red Guitars most well known song was Good Technology - a rather 1980's view on life which I imagine made to about no 23 in the Festice Fifty. I heard it the other day for the first time in about 20 years and it actually sounded quite good. But not really much of a legacy in comparison with The GBs |
