i don't know how close anyone else was following it, but i've been left sunburned and miserable after spending ten and a half hours yesterday trying to convince people to vote green. they'd actually been tipped to fare quite well, but from everything i've heard and read in the past 24 hours it looks like only the smallest amount of ground has been made, if any at all.

i'm guessing this is a universal situation/outcome in the fate of all minor parties, especially green ones. and it could just be the heatstroke talking, but it only serves to emphasise how removed some of us are in the way we believe we should be treating eachother, the planet, etc. tres shitty.

ok, off to grab the aloe and another litre of water. rant over.

I was disappointed that the greens didn't get more votes too. It really says alot about what damage Howard has done to the Australian psyche. 20 years ago, Australia was proudly green in tinge with very good environmental credentials and a desire to "get it right". We've had 10 years of a man ruling the country that beats the Xenophobia can (The Communist one doesn't exit anymore) whenever it suits him and has through all that time lambasting anything green as foolish and treating global warming warnings as needing no heeding. It's only been in the last 6 months that he's finally admitted that it's happening and we should do something. DUH!!!!!!!
His whole mindset is in the 50's and as such, the best way to get out of the situation is with that new fangled nuclear stuff! Stuff the environment and forget the 250,000 year holding of the waste!! I am to the point with that man that I nearly feel like Morrissey did with Thatcher in the 80's!!! He has made Australia a richer, greedier and more materialistic society that is too concerned with the narrow path of material wealth that it can't and won't raise it's head to see the bigger picture. The fuckers gonna win the next one too if don't get rid of Beasley and then we'll have 25 nuclear power plants up and running because the electorate voted him in, even though he won't campaign on it - much like the GST. The greens will have to moderate somewhat if they are to get even some influence....rant, rant, rant etc
