You want to hear about an incredibly nice gesture? Background: for a couple of years in the early 2000s I was an off-and-on volunteer on the Christgau website: proofreading, retyping articles, factchecking, etc. Long hours sometimes, but self-imposed because it was mostly a lot of fun. Today I got a Christmas card in the mail from RC, with this message: "I never thought robertchristgau.com would add directly to my income. But now that it has, via Rhapsody, I wanted to share a tiny bit of it with you. Thanks for all your generous work." Enclosed was a tidy little check. Now wouldn't you agree that that's an incredibly nice gesture? |

I'm glad to hear it, Allen. It's always nice to hear about people you admire performing acts of kindness like that. I don't know, but I assume Christgau doesn't make insane amounts of money, so sending some to you when you didn't expect it strikes me as especially generous. Congrats. |
