"Stop, Look, Listen!" I just got a handsome promo of the Songs For The Young At Heart compilation (tracklist on g-bs.net) and can recommend the song "Uncle Sigmund“s Clockwork Storybook" sung by Robert Forster. I don't know exactly what it is, but Robert's way of singing, his voice, his pronounciation etc. really moves me. It's a short song, with children on it etc. but well worth the price (I paid approx. 2,5 pounds). The whole album sounded great (from one listen): most songs from the 60s or new, and played to give a vintage/timeless merry-go-round impression. Clean, nice, clever. Besides Robert: you get Bonnie Prince Billy, Kurt Wagner, Cerys Matthews (whom I did not know, but she makes a fine effort), Stuart Staples etc. Readings by Jarvis Cocker and others. |
