Seeing in the new year just wouldn't be the same without it. Nominate one or a few of your best albums of '03. I think it makes for better entertainment if you include a short explanation or rationale of WHY you nominated each selection. Author : Cichli Suite Date : 04/12/2003 13:45:31 I'm with you there on Gene Clark's 'No Other'. I've never heard anything like it before - country, soul and (slightly) hippyish rock'n'roll. British Sea Power's CD is the most enjoyable thing I've listened to all year. I just jump around the room when the first track comes on! But the album of the year for me goes to John Cale's 'Homo Sapiens'. Brilliant songs, unusual inventive arrangements. I think its the best collection of music he has ever put together. Author : jeanieDate : 05/12/2003 07:56:21 i think gene clark is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of the last fifty years, up there with hank williams, elvis, dylan and johnny cash. i can't believe he is so little known, his albums with the dillards 'through the morning/through the night & the fantastic expedition of dillard and clark' are also awesome. the john cale album is also on my list, but i haven't got round to that one yet. ------------------------------------------------- Subject : Your Best Albums of 2003. Also, 'Too Close To See Far'- Cosmic Rough Riders 'Twice'- The Tyde 'Love Is Hell Pt1'- Ryan Adams 'Bright Yellow Bright Orange' - The Go-Betweens Single of the year - 'Hey Girl' - The Delays (A rewrite of 'There She Goes' and just as good) ------------------------------------------------- Subject : Your Best Albums of 2003. Not that you want to judge people by their musical taste - god, I hope no-one judges me by mine - but I certainly do feel empathy with you all on these albums of the year. Mine are the usual things I've been hammering all along. Royal Dave Graney Show- the Brother Who Lived New Estate - Considering The Bites - White Lines and Runways Pink Stainless Tail (more an EP than an album I suppose) I only like Melbourne music! They are from Melbourne and if anybody had said to me only 6 months ago that 'Jew-boy Rap' was going to be the next 'big thing' I don't think I could have beleived them. One of the best albums I've heard in a LONG time. In case your wondering who he is, he was in a band called New Model Army.
