Well you know that the trip of a lifetime is approaching when Emirates airlines tell you they want £3,700 pounds by the end of month - ouch!
The plan is me,wife and 2 kids fly to Brisbane at the end of July, spend 3 days there with the wifes brother and mrs, then fly to their hometown of Cairns for the remainining 2 and a 1/2 weeks. Christ this country is big, Brisbane to Cairns is 1,750 km, which is further than the tip of Scotland to London. Padraig, nearer the time you can fill me in on Go-Bs tourist attractions in Brisbane, Ricks will definately be getting a visit of course. is there anything going on in Brisbane at that time of year, or elsewhere in Queensland, that you can recommend?

I'm very jealous, thinking back it must be about seven years since Oz has had the honour.....Something that needs correcting, maybe for the Rugby League World Cup!

Cheers

Got to get to Rocking Horse records in Brisbane Kevin.

Cape Tribulation is about three hours north of Cairns Kevin and is well worth seeing. It is tropical rain forsest and was the most peaceful place I'd ever been to when I was there in 1992. I hope it is still like that. Stay a night or two there if you can.

More as I think of it.

Cape Tribulation and Daintree National Park are absolutely stunning Kevin, I wouldn't spend too much time in Cairns, not a lot to do.

Thanks Abigail and XY.

Cairns will be our base cos thats where the relatives stay. Believe me there might not be a lot to do XY,but when you stay in Central Scotland like I do it will be paradise on earth. Hopefully we will do a lot of touring about though

I remember a friend in New Zealand used to throw some seeds into the tomato patch and everyday you'd see they had grown bigger....the sooner global warming hits Ireland the better...

I saw Peter Tosh in concert about 22 years ago. The PA guy said something like "Alright everybody get up off your seats, light up your spliffs and welcome all the way from Kingstown, Jamaica, Peter Tosh". Peter walked on stage with sunglasses on, a cane in one hand and the biggest spliff I had ever seen in the other. One of the greatest entrances I have ever witnessed.

I might have taken the bit about the smell of grass coming out of homes the wrong way...

You can definitely smell it coming out of homes and cars here, but not mine - too expensive here...

There’s a chain of Pizzerias in Cambodia called ‘Happy Herb Pizzas’. I ate in one a few years ago and while the place is not in-your-face about it they do ask ‘do you want that happy?’ while they take down your order. I asked for a medium ‘happy’ pizza as I wasn’t sure of the strength. I went home a happy customer needless to say…!

I can imagine XY, I invited a cambodian student from Prague some years ago and he should do the cooking. He showed up with two chickens and a handful of herbs, put it together in a pan and an hour after dinner I fell from my chair and ended up hysterical laughing... He was a happy chick then, cause at home his Mama didn't allow "spice" with the poulet...
But that's a Brisbane thread: take the CityCat and listen to Streets of Your Town on you're i-pod, Kevin. Not very spectacular, just essential...

Give me Streets of Your Town over My Ding A Ling any day:-)

Actually maybe its time to clarify things here, I dont hate 16LL really. Its just that it was, along with late 80s REM records, amongst my most anticipated album releases ever. I was let down badly in both cases, the GO-Bs because I felt they blanded out looking for the big breakthrough album, and REM because they pandered to the stadium crowd.
The songs are brilliant on 16LL, I just dont like the way some of them sound. By most other bands it would probably be a career best
