I just read a review of the new album by The Clientele (pitchforkmedia.com). There is a quote from one of the songs that clearly echoes a Grant song (and this is probably a very fine greeting to Grant). Does anyone else but me hear another song beneath this: "I realize now that his delicate frame could only have been nourished by medieval foods: turnips, blood sausage, perhaps songbirds roasted in a thin, toxic sauce of mercury" |

The words alone remind me of 'River of Money', that marvelous spoken word number, if not 'Reunion Dinner'. |

For a relatively new listener, Liz, you sure know your Grant. Excellent spotting. |

Yeah, I was thinking of River of Money. Haven't heard the Clientele (also spoken word) song yet, though. I wonder if the impression will last? |

I played my favourite Clientele song Losing Haringey (from Strange Geometry) for a friend. He immediately picked up the guitar figure and started looking for the first Jack Frost album. Yes, one Grant song, Trapeze Boy (I think), have the same figure. No wonder I fell for the Clientele appropriation! |

I really love The Clientele's "Here comes the Phantom" from their recent album. Actually I love the whole album. I also enjoy reading Alasdair's blog at http://theclientele.blogspot.com/ (On a different note: I'm just listening to the Radio Department cover of Bachelor Kisses, it's fantastic) |
