I read last night that Richard Lloyd has left Television for good, to concentrate on his solo career. Its not as if they are putting stuff out every year is it? However i am pleased I saw them 2 years ago in London. Anyone else see them recently?
If they do carry on, it really WON'T be the same without Mr Lloyd's Stratocaster presence will it?

I saw them alsao around that time in berlin. it was a strange gig. they played in a theatre. so i had the feeling that the stage was much too big for the band. as i said it looked strange. nevertheless to see and hear them playing live was a special thing. and surely television without richard lloyd isn't television like wqe all love them.

Last time I saw them was around the time of the release of the third, self-titled album. They were remarkable. They came through Chicago a few years back and I had to miss them, I think because I myself was playing that night. I can't imagine they'd go on under the Television name without Lloyd. Verlaine's got his solo career, and he's always played TV tunes in his solo set. Still, you'd think Lloyd would stick with it for the occasional cash infusion. It's not like they were touring 10 months a year.

Saw them in Dublin five or six years ago. They were amazing. I roared out a "great gig guys" outside the venue later as the band was stepping into a cab. Tom Verlaine looked around and perplexed.

Any truth to the rumour that Jim O'Rouke is taking Richard Lloyd's place in the band?

Jimmy Ripp, who played with Tom last year a few times, I think he is the guy taking over. There is a recent Youtube featuring I think Jimmy Rip.
I don't think Jia as much as I love him, could be as nimble with Richard's parts as people would like? Maybe wrong...

It's not really Television without Richard Lloyd, though, is it? Jimmy Ripp has long been Verlaine's second guitarist, and both Smith and Ficca have played on Verlaine's solo records as well. Without Lloyd, it's really just the Tom Verlaine Band playing the songs of Television. The fact that they never recorded any new music after starting to play together again in '01 kind of dampened my enthusiasm for the reunion as well. R.I.P. (but not Ripp), Television.

I was gonna say the same thing, Kurt. The only difference being that playing under the name Television probably attracts a bigger audience than a Tom Verlaine solo show. I think it might be time to bury Television, but I guess I don't begrudge Verlaine the bigger paychecks he'll earn keep the TV moniker alive.
