Apropos of nothing already on here, but can anyone out there tell me who sang a song with the lyric "shut up, you aggravating pup"? The train of conversation which led me to this frustrating point would make no sense, but suffice to say that It's been bugging all day.

I think it was one of those "novelty" type songs so beloved by punk bands in the late seventies/early eighties (and almost guaranteed to kill a career)

A pint at the next GoB's gig for whoever can assist, and maybe then the damn song will get out of my head!!!

Was it Tenpole Tudor? I remember it from the early 80s.

Its not "Jilted John" by artist of same name perchance??
More lyrics include..."shut up you aggravating pup, I'm tired listening to your whining; what have you done to that poor girl, you lazy good for nothing".. or something like that...does this stir the grey matter in anyone else???

MR. Psycho is indeed correct as far as I can make out - the freshmen did it if it end s with

" constant criticism I swear to you I never heard anything like it !"

I remember that track from around 1979, used to get a lot of airplay on Irish radio. The Freshmen were a '60s showband, and the new wavey 'Never Heard Anything Like It' was their first, and I think last record, in years.
