Watch the "Just a Storyteller" clip. Not totally convincing.

Cate Blanchett is the one who's a big Go-Betweens fan and had them play at a private party, isn't she?

Yikes. I do believe you're right. Not very convincing at all. I appreciate that Dylan's a little tricky to get a handle on, but the conceit of the movie - having five or six different people play him at different points in his life - might be a little too high concept. Cate, in the clip, looks like she could be a stand-in for "Pat" of SNL fame...

And yes it was Cate who had them play at her party, the byotch (an expression of jealousy - I have nothing against CB, apart from her supreme good fortune).

I think it's quite good. Convincing enough for me. I guess I just have lower standards and lesser expectations.

Is it too cynical to say she thinks it's an easy oscar? That whole woman as man/beautiful woman as ugly bint/beautiful woman with fake nose thing that seems to at the very least guarantee a nomination...

My problem with the snippets I saw was that Kate's voice was still too feminine. I couldn't get around that. She just seemed like a manly and Dylanesque looking woman, rather than like Dylan. If she was able to rough up her voice, you know, spend a few years smoking a few packs a day a la Tom Waits, she might be able to pull it off better.
