Well, it now appears that Irish fans will have to wait a bit longer for the reissues to hit the shelves - according to Tower Records they are not due until the 1st of October. HMV have no idea when they are due in have no record of anything other than the 16 Lovers Lane 2CD edition. Freebird Records have them on order but don't know when they are due to arrive. In other words, it's a fucking joke, courtesy of yet another mickey-mouse record label.

To BKN:

As the legendary Spaceman of SST Records once responded many years ago to someone who was getting steamed about an unforeseen delay to the latest Husker Du release:

Relax, dude -- it's only a record . . .

You're right, of course, Steve. I have a tendency to over-react when it comes to Go-Betweens reissues!

Speaking of Husker Du-related anecdotes; I never fail to be amused by the story of the music journalist who had been given the task of reviewing 'Candy Apple Grey' and decided to phone Warner Bros (the major label that Husker Du left SST for) for some background information or even an interview with the group. Upon mentioning the name of the band to the receptionist she replied "Huskey Who?"

yeah I tried HMV Grafton St + Freebird Dublin on Fri Sep 24 - no joy

funny how we get some new releases on the Friday before the UK release [which is always a Monday] but others we don't see for a while afterwards.

Be careful if you order them from play.com - they list the 2CD sets on their website, but send you out the old Beggars Banquet versions! I've had and sent back all three and had refunds, but haven't yet had an answer as to when/if they'll have the real thing.

nlgbbbblth,

I've received confirmation that the reissues will be available on Friday October 1st. From the horse's mouth as it were!

Although the majors release CDs in Ireland on the Friday before their UK release, it's quite common for smaller labels to wait until the Friday after UK release. It's not as if they'll be bothering the charts, anyway!

Well that's a good link, doesn't even work for me. Go to www.timesonline.co.uk and choose 'Sunday - Culture' then select the article called 'Pop - The Past Remastered'.
