From yesterday's Scotsman comes this:

"Outside his beloved Glasgow scene, Murdoch says, "The one group I know about is The Go-Betweens." This hugely talented Australian group was formed in the late 1970s, but despite being garlanded with critical praise they have never made it terribly big. Still, when Murdoch talks about the band’s "great new single" and hanging out with their glamorous front man, Robert Forster, he finally sounds a bit rock’n’roll. Then he notes, "He’s quite a good golfer. You know, he’s quite elegant, always wears the plus-fours and stuff." Before the morning is out, we will tut-tut about the dirty tactics of Sunday League footballers and talk about church. Led Zep, eat your heart out."

What are "plus-fours?" (asks the clueless American)

Austin, as I remember "plus-fours" were the traditional baggy golfing trousers that stop at the knee and tuck over and into long socks that were last worn on the tour by the late Payne Stewart. How sartorially elegant is that?!

More to the point, what is the "great new single" mentioned above? Anyone know anything about this? Perhaps a forthcoming Xmas single...sleighbells and all!
