*blatant self promotion follows* ---------------------------------- The Pits (Brisbane) reform and play Melbourne! Late 70s-early 80s Brisbane post-punk group The Pits recently reformed and have been playing around Brisbane for the past year. The Pits formed in 1979 as a high school punk/pop band. Their sound is Brisbane – guitar strumblin', vocals mumblin'. Described by Greg "Tex" Perkins in Clinton Walker’s 1996 book Stranded: "They were like the Shaggs, a male version, wimpy, out of tune, you know, that Brisbane thing, more comical than the Go-Betweens, though." In the past the band has played with acts such as The Fall, the Go-Betweens and Xero. The band enjoyed some renewed interest courtesy of the Can’t Stop It! Australian Post-Punk 1978-82 compilation on Chapter Records released in 2001. Several self-released tapes and CDs exist. The Pits line-up for their trip to Melbourne will be a four piece featuring drumming virtuoso Jeffrey Wegener (Saints, Laughing Clowns, Young Charlatans, Birthday Party) on drums, plus some special guests.
