A great character actor of longtime standing, excelled at playing tough guys with very complex, vulnerable undersides. Began his film career playing a psycho who pushes an old lady down a flight of stairs in Kiss of Death, went on to many notable films, among them Sam Fuller's Pickup on South Street and Jules Dassin's Night and the City. |

He had such a famous face! man he was great. A great age too. And a great sounding voice, he talked like Sinatra sang. RIP Richard. |

Allen, I have all three of those on DVD. Widmark was always a favorite of mine. Richard Widmark was one of the greatest film noir actors. He was in altogether about a half dozen of them. He was also good in the 50's-60's cold war movies like The Bedford Incident and Hell and High Water, and numerous westerns. He was even decent in the farcical 1960's movie The Long Ships, which I watched a dozen times or so back when I was a kid. That movie makes no sense whatever, but I always got a kick watching it. |
