it's good, but it ain't the VU--it's that Reed/Cale/Nico Bataclan performance from 1972. the three stars must not have hit the depths of their seventies drug abuse yet, they actually look halfway healthy. |

Ah, probably my very favorite VU song. That's cute when Nico flubs at about 2:10 in. |

Its a lovely clip, quite a comfy setting etc, though, this type of thing re VU bores me. I'm much more up for their rock n roll, with Mo behind and Sterling to the left! |

I love "Femme Fatale." Nico's wooden vocals make the original almost dada--a soulful interlude in the shooting gallery. I started playing the clip but was sternly admonished that such things are not appropriate here in George Bush Airport, Houston Texas. And in response to your question in another thread, Buenos Aires did not lose its awesomeness, Jeff. In fact it just kept improving. The well of awesome restaurants that I could easily afford seemed bottomless. From her neighboring table in a cafe an expat on a return visit explained to me that people in Buenos Aires live in chaos. An exceptionally stylish chaos, if you ask me. I still emphatically recommend this city as a destination. |

Randy, thanks so much for the update. I'm hugely envious. I hope you took lots of photos. I love Femme Fatale too. It was really the song that got me into VU. And it's totally proto-80s-melodic-guitar-pop. The way the guitars intertwine, esp. with that shimmery arpeggio guitar melody. It's very Go-Betweens or Felt, musically, except with a cold, German heroin addict singing! There's a live Lou Reed version I like too, where Lou's vocals are atypically nice and melodic. Anyway... |
