The Go-Betweens are appearing live on John Kennedy's XFM show (104.9FM) on Monday 22 November (tomorrow) at 11pm. Robert Forster and Grant McLennan will performing live and chatting to John and answering questions. The show can be heard online the best at
http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/
or via
http://www.xfm.co.uk (which I can't get to work)
John Kennedy will take questions for Robert and Grant via e-mail at John.Kennedy@XFM.co.uk or by phone on +44(0)8712 221049. They also generally give ot a text number on air. Don't know how may songs they will be doing at the moment. The band are in London now recording.
Best

I really enjoyed the show last night with the guys on Xfm. For anyone who missed it John Kennedy played some tracks and some were performed live in the studio. They were:

Surfing Magazines / Here Comes The City / Love Is A Sign (requested by Grant because of "the references to London) / Finding You [Live] (a new Grant song played acousticly which I thought had a similar vibe to Stones For You) / Here Comes The City [Live] (complete with a false start from Robert :-) / Spring Rain

A revealing, lengthy rolling interview was intermingled with the songs. The guys said that they have been in South London recording the new album (released in April) for the last 2 weeks and are shooting a video for Here Comes The City tomorrow!

Apparently there are "secret" talks with Xfm to do a London performance in February and Grant said that they will visit "some groovy places in Europe" to gig in February also.

Grant also said that there is a possibility that the Barbican gig will be released as a live CD.
I was impressed with John Kennedy as he replied to my e-mail containing a question for Robert & Grant; apparently he missed my e-mail when they were on air and sent his apologies for not putting it to Robert & Grant it as it "was a great question"!

I live in South London. Did they mention where exactly?

Were Adele and Glenn with them?

How did Here Comes The City sound? I thought sounded amazing at the Barbican.

Thanks Matt for posting details of the show. It didn't reach the Midlands and my brother wouldn't tape it for me! You have "Here comes the city" twice. Did they play it twice? Once with the proper start and a second time with a false start?

I didn't hear all of the show (way passed my bedtime) but I'm sure they said that both Adele and Glenn would feature on the new album.

Pups: No I'm afraid they didn't say where in South London - I was interested to know though! No Adele and Glenn weren't in the studio. Here Comes The City when they played the CD version maybe sounded slightly funkier than I remember it at the Barbican (no bad thing).

Yes GeeDubya: Grant mentioned that Adele and Glenn are recording with them. Grant actually said that Adele is playing on her third Go-Bees record (he didn't mention her contribution on the Far Out Corporation album though)

David: Yes, they played Here Comes The City twice: the CD first time with full band (possibly the final mix version. John Kennedy revealed that he'd been passed a promo version by the record label some time ago) and then Robert & Grant played it live acoustic. Robert stopped the song just after the intro began and said "ahh I need to put my knee up!" the second version was...erm rather organic (Robert had introduced the song by nameing it's three chords. Grant thanked Robert for doing that, saying that it was said for his benefit!). You could hear muffled laughter during the song and the song was ended by an inpromptu thrash finnish on one of the 2 acoustic guitars! -

It sounded like the guys enjoyed performing although Robert said words to the effect that enjoys talking to the media less the older he gets.

Couldn't get the show here in Northern Ireland.

Were many questions put to Grant and Robert via e-mail?

I sincerely hope the Barbican show is issued on CD. I loved that show and I'd love to have permanent access to the version of "Your Turn, My Turn" they did there.

Great to hear that they are indeed finishing up an album. Does "Here Comes the City" really only have three chords? I was too awestruck at the Barbican to pay attention to such details.
