Great news this, it'd be nice to see a big renaissance of records shops, God the record stores are shit in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Other than less han a handful of small indi records stores, Virgin Megastore used to stock a lot of unusual stuff has now been replaced by a joke shop called Zavvi. Just looking at the name on the shop front fascia make me wan tto avoid stepping into it at all costs. | ||

Manchester's a decent place for a day out record shopping with a few indies left including Piccadilly and Vinyl Exchange. Liverpool on the other hand is very poor for a city with such a musical heritage (and student population) only really got Probe...so its not worth a seperate trip for me! Cheers Jon | ||

Spence, the Zavvi in Woking has a huge picture of Paul Weller to entice punters. Who promptly leave when they see the prices. The old Tower shop at number 1 Picadilly Circus is now a Zavvi too, as well as what was the Virgin mega-Megastore in Oxford Street. A management buy-out methinks. | ||

Chicago had a decent one around the corner from the Double Door venue. I hope it's still there. Ditto Cleveland as Music Saves is two doors down from The Beachland venue. | ||

It's still there, Michael. It's called Reckless Records. By all appearances, they're thriving (although looks can deceive). I think the resurgence of vinyl has helped a bit. And the hipster density around the place in Wicker Park doesn't hurt. | ||

Both Amoeba locations are alive and well in the Bay Area. But the smaller shops around here have been dropping like flies. And many of those that are left make most of their money selling their stock online, often through ebay. |
