Anybody else notice this on Ebay the other week?Went for £26!! Had "Ashes on The Lawn", "Crystal Shacks" and "City of Lights" as extra tracks alongside "Finding You". Quite a rarity... |

I've still never heard those non-LP tracks. Interesting... |

I'm pretty sure that these are the same tracks that was issued as a download single. If that is the case, "Ashes on The Lawn" is not "Ashes on The Lawn" but one song from the BYBO b-sides. (That was a disappointment to many and some kind of marketing mistake.) Still, you never know. "Crystal Shacks" is an instrumental. "City of Lights" is of course a wonderful song Gbs vs Future Pilot AKA. |

I suppose it'd be seen as a cash in at this point, but over the course of the Go-Bs three-album reformation there were quite a few nice b-sides released. I have a playlist of them on my iPod and they stand up well. Here's the tracklist: Woman Across The Way The Locust Girls Haven't I Been A Fool [live] Clouds [live] Cattle And Cane [live] Instant Replay Taxi Taxee A Girl Lying On A Beach Erotic Sunshine Stone The City Of Lights [vs. Future Pilot AKA] Sleeping Giant Crystal Shacks That's 42 minutes of music, and given that some of this stuff has only every been available in a non-physical (ie. digital_ format I'm holding out hope for a nice little compilation album someday. |

Side One: Have a look at the following link from this site: http://www.go-betweens.org.uk/discograph y/2003carolineandi/2003carolineandi.htmC aroline and I It lists the tracks on Caroline and I single as: Caroline and I Instant Replay Girl Lying On A Beach Released as a CD single: Australia: Trifekta HORSE029-2, 9th June 2003 USA: Jetset, June 2003 UK: Circus, February 2003 promo only The track listing is not accurate w.r.t. the Australian Trifekta release which includes the above tracks and also the track 'Taxi Taxee' to which you refer above. Is it any good? Who knows? I find it a bit of a jjokey number myself, maybe something of a kindred spirit to something like 'Little Joe', the b-side to Spring rain. "Train spotter anoraks of the world Unite and take over". |

Hmmm. I've got the Clearspot C & I single which doesn't have Taxi. Never mind. Cheers, for the info. |

Maybe this is a related question. Does anyone here know where one can pick up the re-mastered/or whatever Ocean's Apart CD? I've got the double CD original release and have lived with the horrible sound long enough. I want to order the one with the good sound and I haven't followed that discussion around here. |

Actually good question, i've never heard the remastered/re-release, did it actually make for a less distorted (in places) album? |

Spence, Bryce - back in 2005, following the epic controversy of OA's distorted sound, Lo-Max re-pressed a batch of CDs with a slight adjustment in the mastering (they kicked the volume down a notch). They only pressed the actual CD, and the deal was that if you mailed in your CD (sans case, art, etc..), they'd send you a new copy. They were even nice enough to extend this offer to us folks in the US with Yep Roc copies, and I promptly took them up on it. It did make a difference, particularly with the last two songs. This Night's for You and Mountains Near Delray distorted pretty badly, and Lo-Max's 2nd pressing made a notable improvement with those. Overall, the sound is still "hot" and over compressed, just a little more listenable. For what it's worth, I thought the vinyl sounded slightly better, even though it came from the same digital source. I think the very nature of the vinyl subtly toned down the harshness a wee bit. (You can find info on all this if you search the older threads). As for whether or not Lo-Max's 2nd pressing is commercially available in the shops, I have no idea. It'd be a good question to ask them, though. |

Wow. That's funny because I do have the vinyl and I never noticed the distortion on it. I've been listening to the CD though lately, via my Ipod, and I can really hear the distortion. Especially on Boundary Rider and This Night's For You. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to stick to listening to the vinyl at home. Or carry around a portable record player, but that might not go over too well on a crowded subway. |

Bryce, really? While the vinyl does sound better than the original CD (I have the vinyl on Yep Roc), it's still pretty "hot." But, I pretty much loathe contemporary recording fads (like making everything loud, overcompressed, and distorted), so my ears are particularly sensitive to that kind of thing. But the vinyl does sound less harsh and more natural overall. But I think the Lo-Max CD repressing is a bit cleaner still. |
