Just like to say that this is probably imo Robs best solo song ever.A fitting farewell to his friend. Got some questions on the lyrics with some ideas of my own and was also hoping people might be able to throw out some of their own ideas. Some have indeed already been posed in a previous thread.
Any ideas who David was \is ?
The line "It’s strong...what we made for a thousand years it will not fade no no no" Would this be Robs writing about their work and all they did? I seem to remeber reading that Rob in his short speech at Grants funeral reportedly saying that Grants work will live for a thousand years (only to pause and then joke "actually Grant has just told me it will last ten thousand")

The final verse...
There are people who love the moon
Its milky warmth and its brilliant gloom
They hate the day it’s just too rough
They go in the morning when they’ve had enough

Probably the most powerful lyric Rob has ever wrote. Maybe it might even be better if the songs lyrics are not meant to broken down. What I can say is Take a bow RF on an amazing album and a brilliant closing tune both lyrically and musically.

I agree with you 100%. Absolutely stunning in every single way. What strikes me especially is that it really sounds like nothing else he has done (am I missing something here?), which makes it all the more poignant.

Regarding, "it's strong..." I believe it is in reference to their work and all that they did.

Not sure who Dave is. I have a few more things I want to say about the song but I have to run. I'll be back ;)

"David". I guess/think that it is David Nichols who wrote the Gbs book/s (ed.1 and 2) and also wrote an eulogy (is that the right word?) somewhere after Grant passed away. I think that Robert remembered the words of David Nichols when he (Robert) wrote the song.

Yes, a great song.
