I know there are several Triffid fans on this site. Great band, criminally underrated, genius songwriter, sound familiar? Unfortunately and tragically, they can never reform and get their due (and a few quid) because lead singer David McComb died tragically young.

Anyway, Graham Lee, esrtwhile member of The Triffids turned record company mogul (it says here) has set up a site at www.thetriffids.com. There are bits of Dave's diaries, lyrics, biography and other writings of his, and a heap of excellent, rare audio material. There's also a decent, if sparsely populated, forum too. There are plans, according to Graham, of reissues of The Triffids ouevre, with unheard material a la The Go-Betweens. Also talk of a tribute album to Dave. And news on the book!!

Shameless plug this, but they were a great, great band and he was the best lyricist of his generation and somewhere in a parallel universe Born Sandy Devotional has sold more copies than the Dark Side of the Moon and McComb is the richest man alive.

There's been talk of a McComb/Triffids tribute album for years- I hope it does see the light of day. I'm pretty sure Mark C. Halstead was going to/or has already recorded 'Property is Condemned'.

Yes i have seen this site before. The Triffids I agree where a great band..even more sonically experimental then the GBS in there day..just the way they changed from album to album song to song. my favourite is the Black Swan a pretty eclectic collection of songs but as whole it forms a brill patchwork quilt of song, pity it did not set the word on fire but thems the breaks, now all we need is a revival of another great and from that part of the world, next door in New Zealand, The Chills. They along with the Triffids and GBs always formed the holy trinity of bands from down south as they say.

Seán, The Chills have a new 8 song ep called Stand By (one track is hidden). I have it, it's very good. They play fairly regularly in NZ, but I am waiting for their return to Sydney. Martin Phillips was recently convicted of shoplifting though, so I guess the ep has not sold a lot. You should buy it so that he doesn't have to shoplift anymore (he got caught robbing some cheese and a banana drink. I wonder if people bring these items to his gigs now?). You can find further details and order it at The Chills website: www.softbomb.com

Hi Padraig, good to read that the Chills have a new EP out not available in this neck of the woods..Ireland..but must go searching for it. Sad to read about the shoplifting conviction for cheese and a Banana drink strange days indeed and a little sad I am sure for all concerned, things must be tight for Martin Phillips at the moment. I know he had problems with drugs a few years back and hopefully is over all that now. Any way thanks for the information will try and source the ep from their site.
