U.N.I.T is the flounce rock group that Amanda Brown and I play in. We have never played live. Years of rehearsal. We call it our book club. We have a debut gig coming up on Feb 10, Thursday at the Hopetoun in Surry Hills Sydney.
Peter Jones (Cosmic Psychos) on guitar, Clyde Bramley (Hoodoo Gurus) on bass, Jed Brown songwriter and vocals/guitar, Steve Foster on sax. AB is playing keys btw.
I'm sure there'll be hundreds of people down there with their MP3 recorders! Of course I'll be confiscating any I see.

just been scouring all the drummer debate items,as i havent been on for a while.Nobody can justify any argument, Lindy is the greatest, and although i wish anybody having to fill those boots the greatest luck, you shouldnt try to put anybody up alongside Lindy,we know shes the greatest, and Amanda, you just have to view the go bs mk2,as a separate entity, todays gbs are still great, but we are all aware of whats missing, and can only romantisize, and enjoy them for what they are now.I certainly miss Lindy, and Amanda, for their magical skills,i only got to meet Lindy once,at the manchester international 1989,Grant,and Robert were a little stand offish,Lindy let this starstruck young man have photos taken with her,and asked me if i enjoyed the show, and was completely down to earth, and very approachable, and i love her for that.Lindy the best of luck in everything you do.

I'm just back from seeing U.N.I.T.'s first ever show. It was in the Hopetoun Hotel and it was really good. Two-fifths of the best lineup of The Go-Betweens right there before my eyes!

Amanda mostly played keyboards, but also played violin which, unfortunately, got lost in the mix (it was the Hopetoun afterall). She did not play oboe or sing, which, for me anyway, was a pity.

Lindy was at first chewing gum, thus disproving the theory that drummers can't play and chew gum at the same time. She is still a tremendous drummer. (Neil Peart of Rush is probably better technically, but he's too busy reading his Ayn Rand books these days).

U.N.I.T.'s sound reminded me a bit of Ed Kuepper and Smudge and Morphine (the latter, though, only because they were the only other rock band I know of that used saxophone as a lead instrument).

Best song of the set was an instrumental. No titles were announced and I did not rob a setlist, so you completists will have to find out the name elsewhere.

Peter and David, if U.N.I.T. play Melbourne, be there. It was not brilliant, but it showed great promise.

Lindy, what does the band's name stand for?

Oh man, and I'm working night shift half a km down the road from the Hopetoun. I could have left a cardboard cutout in my seat (they wouldn't tell the difference) and seen you guys. Lindy, it's great to have you back on the stool. Have you still got that massive fan? You'd have needed it at the Hoey. And I haven't seen Amanda since she guested on REM's Monster tour. Are you playing Sydney again?

Roger, I can't believe you asked about the fan. I always carried a fan when I played and I was going to tonight but it was so unusually cold here in Sidders and we were only playing for 32 minutes so I knew I would survive.
But man, the great news is I met Pádraig and Joanna. Fantastic.

U.N.I.T. is the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce run by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart in Dr Who. Didn't know you two were fans.
