There isn't a WAY off topic thread, so this will have to go in plain old off topic. I don't know if anyone will be interested, probably not, but I've written about World Youth Day, which is on in Sydney next week, in today's Irish Times. You can read it at http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/worl d/2008/0709/1215537641378.html |

...the past week has been a torrid time for the Church in Australia with Archbishop Pell being publicly questioned on one of many recent revelations of Priesthood failings. Your article introduces different groups with interests that some may consider irreverent, for peace sake, I trust the Pope induces harmonious situations. Your article Padraig, captures in essence the chance that this may not be the case. |

Cheers Padraig..your article sums up events to date, where the rights of all can challenge values with peaceful insight. The next few days of the Papal visit will tell more on the moods of the milling crowds. I am enthused by the mixture of 'pilgrims' (dont like that word)that have come to Sydney. I for once believe PM Rudd did OK in his speech, lifting an already high spirited crowd, higher, further, longer, older...mmm! |

Thanks Charles. I've had two more pieces in the meantime. They are at http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/worl d/2008/0718/1216073258092.html and http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/news features/2008/0719/1216389362046.html The second piece is a more in-depth view of the whole event. My final WYD piece will be in Monday's IT. I'll let you know the link when it goes up. |

..some chilling material within Padraig, I'm enjoying these articles immensely. What I like is that we can make own decisions regarding apologies or not for the ill-doings. There were some tough calls to be made, look forward to the the end report. |
