saw American Music Club last night in a very small room in a pub in Winchester and they were amazing. Eitzel was mesmerising - in a good mood and in very fine voice indeed, a brilliant, brilliant songwriter and the band were cooking.
Any GBs fans who have not yet discovered the charms of AMC should definitely check them out

I used to be heavily into AMC back in the early to mid-90s, and I saw them back in '94 or thereabouts. Cosmo, every word you use to describe them live is accurate. I haven't kept up with them, and I think I got a bit burnt out on them back then, but that show still stands as one of the most amazing I've witnessed. Seeing Mark Eitzel accidentally breaking his mic stand was priceless.

Used to love 'em, but kinda lost the thread somewhere back. It seems Eitzel just, in their recordings, got more self-absorbed and sorta disappeared up his own arsehole. But still and all, "Everclear" and "Mercury" still, to this day, rank as some of the most powerful and affecting music I've ever heard.

i think i fell out of love with them too at some point and i struggled with alot of Eitzels solo work but the two AMC albums since they got back together have been very good.they have a new guitarist on the tour and it allows Eitzel to just sing which he does rather wonderfully. they are also according to the man himself playing songs that they couldnt do live before because he is not a good enough guitarist to play them. i am so glad i went to the gig because it was like falling in love again (sorry marlene)and like all great gigs it has had me enthusiastically diving into their back catalogue. 'California' is a genius album too Ewan (Firefly,Jenny,Western Sky,Last Harbour)

I really love their latest, Golden Age. It's a much gentler, more melodic album than most of their catalog, but the the songs are gorgeous and it's a bit of a "lost album" this year!

Yeah I really like Golden Age, its so mellow, his lyrics are great on this. Never paid much attention to him rightly or wrongly before this album.

Sleeping Beauty from Golden Age was a highlight at the Winchester gig and sounded even better live than on the album.
