Um, my sentiments exactly. Too bad they're playing Slim's, though. That venue is notorious for overly bassy sound, and well, just not having the same soul as some other places around here. That's where they played last time, too. Oh well, better Slim's than not at all.

Wow, the Troubadour. Intimate and a short hop from my house.

Is Jonathan putting us on?

Anyone know what Abbey Pub in Chicago is like? A five hour drive for me so might just be worth it. I'm not expecting Madison Square Gardens...

yeah. i've heard the horror stories of slim's, but the shows i've seen weren't that bad. my band played there recently and during soundcheck it was so bassy i thought the sound system was broken. but if the room fills up the bass goes away. i guess every show i've seen at slim's has been sold out. was their last show crowded? i didn't live in sf at the time. i saw them on that tour in new york though. great, great show i thought.

why can't they play the great american instead? it seems much more suited to them than slim's, and they're run by the same people.

the last go-betweens show in SF, which was at slim's when they were touring for Rachel Worth, was definitely *not* sold out. the room appeared to be about 2/3 full by the end of the show.

but i agree, the great american music hall is much better suited to them. that's where they played when they toured in support of bellavista terrace, and it was a wonderful show.

Abbey Pub/Chicago

I have been there once, to see Luna. There is an upstairs balcony, which buzzes when the bass is heavy, but offers a great view. It has seats. There is a downstairs, which doesn't seem to have the buzzing problem, no seats.

I've never seen the Go-Betweens (classic or current), but if they don't get too heavy, I think upstairs would be better and more relaxing.

An attached restaurant serves decent pub grub, Irish-style, but not quickly.

Arrive early enough and parking should be only a minor problem.

They've got a web site at http://www.abbeypub.com/ .

Can't believe no Atlanta date, especially with a NC date closeby, although we tried through the booking agent. Still gonna try and get one of those offs days..

When Rob Forster and Grant start on their American Tour, will Robert Vickers, who's lived in New York city since who knows when, reunite with RF, Grant and Glenn (or Lindy, if she's invited back)? And, is it likely Amanda will join as a guest?
