I have seen a fair amount of Go-B’s and solo performances over the years, but never in such unusual surroundings. However, it did result in a small intimate gig with a warm and appreciative crowd. A strange start with the lighting, full blast or none at all. None of this mattered to us once Robert began to play, keeping us mesmerised with his wonderful array of songs from his current and back catalogue. A slightly different set from Manchester with great acoustic versions of Love is a Sign and Danger in the Past. There wasn’t Rock’n’Roll Friend, Quiet Heart, People Say or Heart out to Tender, but we were treated to Sweet Jane, Draining the Pool For You and a simply brilliant 121. Some great quips and anecdotes from Robert during the night and special mention must go to Adele, Glenn and Matthew who just seem to be getting better and better, long may this band continue. Also, a nice little moment when Glenn’s keyboard refused to operate for Too Much of One Thing and someone quipped ‘There’s a book here Robert, on how to fix it’ It was good to meet Frank Boscombe, seems like we have attended some of the same shows over the years. The audience seemed to be a mixture of the devoted and the curious. Hopefully, after this show there will be some new converts to Robert and his music. Next stop London, you lucky, lucky people. Nice to meet you Martin, it just was indeed a wonderful, interesting gig (and the curious my brother in law did really enjoy it). I'd forgotton Draining the Pool, I started making a list during the acoustic set but decided I should just enjoy it and not make lists. | ||

Yes, I think that gig is one for the memory bank. Pleased your brother in law enjoyed it, I'm just trying to console myself that I am not in London for tonights show..... Incidentally, did you get a set list of the Lancaster show or any photos? I've been checking Robert's website, but so far no luck. | ||

Charming and thrilling show with Robert at home amongst the books-he seemed to love the new platform for his work, as did Adele et al!! Warm voice that soared the book shelves too!! | ||
