I keep seeing Cleopatra Wong's "Egg" popping up on Ebay...is it any good (apologies Amanda,Lindy) or does it make me a sad Go Betweens completist? |

Okay, you've made me put this on. I must confess that I haven't played this in quite a while and yes, if it's at a reasonable price- then buy it. Amanda's voice is quite beautiful, like her violin and oboe parts. Cleopatra's Lament is probably my pick of the two EPs. I've always found Cleopatra Wong to be twee pop in an Even As We Speak sort of way. |

It's excellent. Padraig made me a copy (thank you very much sir) and it's great summer music. Not unlike Frente i thought. |

What's sad about being a Go Betweens completist, Richard? |

I just picked up "Egg" the last time it showed up on eBay. I consider myself a moderate completist, i.e., I will not bother to get vinyl versions of things. "Egg" is not high art. But I do find the two middle tracks "Dangerous Girl" and "Tina's Story" to be well worth listening to and the lyrical sound of Amanda's oboe and violin keeps harking back to those two golden final GoBee albums she participated on. Interestingly, it's when I listen to "Egg" that I really feel the wish that Lindy and Amanda could reunite with Grant and Robert. And, yes, I WILL get "Cleopatra's Lament" whenever it shows up on eBay. |

Hi Andy Nothing sad at all about being a Go Betweens completist...just that there are degrees of obsession .Celeopatra Wong doesn't turn up all that frequently and is notoriously hard to track down so I just wanted a second/third etc opinion before I dabbled on Ebay. thanks to the feedback, I think I will buy a copy next time itappears, but ideally some enterprising little indie label would look at relicencing "Egg" and "Lament" for reissue.. |
