Just bought the expanded BH set and found that on By Chance and As Long As That, when listening on my headphones there are glitches in the sound - like frazzled drop-outs or something. Sorry, I'm not a techohead so don't have the correct vocabulary. Anyone else notice these slight imperfections or do I need to replace my copy (Circus 2002). I wonder if the masters themselves have worn with age. |

i think we've had this discussion before a while back, but i'm to lazy to use the freaking search function to find it. basically, we agreed that there are, in fact, some glitches in the circus version of before hollywood's sound. the most glaring being that there sounds like some kind of delay on the kick drum, really noticeable on songs like "two steps step out" and some others. it almost sounds like lindy's going crazy doing triplets with the kick in several spots. i think you can hear this delay effect on other instruments too, but it seems most prevalent on lower frequency stuff, like lower notes, bass, kick drum, etc... it's really noticeable if you listen to it with headphones. it's disconcerting enough to me that i held onto my rough trade copy of the cd, though i usually just play the vinyl anyhow. we attributed it to a mastering error during the re-mastering process, since the original vinyl and the original rough trade cd versions sound totally fine. i think the beggars reissue might have had the same problem, but don't quote me on that. |

thanks Jeff, I'm assuming that the Jetset, Jap and German release are glitch free. Is this so? |

well, technically my "before hollywood" 2-disc reissue is from Jetset, but i imagine they simply used the same masters that they got from circus. so to answer your question, the jetset versions are not glitch free. |

Madser said, "Can I quote you on that, Jeff?" Looks to me like you already quoted him. Now get back in your cage before I beat you with sausage and make you run through the cul-de-sac in your rubber punishment suit. |
