Anyone know what ever happens to the Go-Betweens singles when they are released in this country. I have Australian copies of Going Blind, Surfing Magazines (wonderful live acoustic b-sides of Cattle and Cane, Clouds and Haven't I Been A Fool) and Caroline and I which I got on holiday but I can't remember seeing any of their singles actually appear here despite Caroline and I being touted as one all the time when the last album came out. Any ideas? |

I think Going Blind came out in the UK (I assume you're talking about the UK when you say "this country"). I got mine in Sister Ray in London at a normal CD single price anyway and I don't think it was an import. The other two definitely didn't come out here although Circus announced Caroline And I as a single. |

As far as I know: Going Blind was released in Europe, UK and Aus - probably States as well. Caroline & I released in Europe (not UK) & Aus - the Aus release had the extra track "Taxi Taxee" not on Euro release. Surfing Mags was only released in Aus. |

Is 'Taxi Taxee' worth hearing? Kind of a stupid question (everything they've done is worth hearing) but it's the only track I'm aware of that I don't have. Never saw the single in a NY shop. |

I think it is - it's a sort of throwaway song written by Glenn Thompson and sung by Robert. It's not a classic and I remember it being dismissed at the time on this board as being inconsequential. However I have really grown to like the Caroline e.p. over time, with 'Taxi Taxee' snugly fitting into it - sort of a homely production sound that's laidback and warm. |

Taxi Taxee was a song Glenn frequently performed with his band Adults Today. I don't like the Gobs version. |

I think Taxi Taxee is worth hearing for fans, but is a definite B side. A novelty song, but not bad for a bit of fun. |

Taxi Taxee isn't the worst song The Go-Betweens have ever recorded (not sure what that would be right now), but it's in the ball park. |

Well, the fact that it's a "cover version" is interesting in itself as the band has never released one TMK. I do have 'Sympathy For The Devil' credited to the Go-Betweens from a Beggars Banquet Birthday disc (apparently) but it sounds like Robert alone. I also have a live version of Dylan's 'Hurricane' from a show in Madrid, circa '88, but it's a raw bootleg and incomplete at that. So... I guess I should keep my eyes out on eBay or Amazon.com for the 'Caroline & I' single. |
