Have had the album two weeks and i have to say it is really a great record by far the best of the reformation in my opinion. The inclusion of MarK Wallis into the mix has been great for the songs and for that outside view that I believe the GBS need to bring out the best in their music, I found the first two reformation records to be very flat sounding and not in a very good way, typical of bands who go to produce themselves, I cite Teenage Fanclub as an example of this type of band who usually are better off with an external producer then doing it themselves (at time of writing I have not heard their new album , I look forward to it.). Anyway I really like oceans apart and I believe this may grow into love at a later date, the only chink in the armour for me is "The Statue" it just does not do it for me and I have tried but it keeps leaving me with a so what at the end. However the rest of the album is up there with their best, nine out of ten is good and unlike a lot of people I actually like Here comes a city :-) |
