Dark Night of the Soul, will be "released" as a blank recordable CD with a note encouraging fans to download it from an illegal filesharing network. Although the album can be heard through an authorised internet stream, it will not receive an official physical or digital release, the group have announced, due to an unspecified legal dispute with EMI. Unable to purchase the music, fans are encouraged to buy the project's accompanying book, with photographs by filmmaker David Lynch, which comes with a blank recordable CD-R. "All [CD-Rs] will be clearly labelled: 'For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will,'" the website states. The limited-edition book and CD-R cost $50 (£33), or fans can buy a poster and CD-R for just $10 (£6.60). All songs written and composed and produced by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse 1. "Revenge" (featuring The Flaming Lips) – 4:52 2. "Just War" (featuring Gruff Rhys) – 3:44 3. "Jaykub" (featuring Jason Lytle) – 3:52 4. "Little Girl" (featuring Julian Casablancas) – 4:33 5. "Angel's Harp" (featuring Black Francis) – 2:57 6. "Pain" (featuring Iggy Pop) – 2:49 7. "Star Eyes (I Can't Catch It)" (featuring David Lynch) – 3:10 8. "Everytime I'm With You" (featuring Jason Lytle) – 3:09 9. "Insane Lullaby" (featuring James Mercer) – 3:12 10. "Daddy's Gone" (featuring Mark Linkous and Nina Persson) – 3:09 11. "The Man Who Played God" (featuring Suzanne Vega) – 3:09 12. "Grim Augury" (featuring Vic Chesnutt) – 2:32 13. "Dark Night of the Soul" (featuring David Lynch) – 4:38 |

Seeing as the artists themselves are encouraging downloads and it's not available to buy I'm sure the admin won't mind... http://hotfile.com/dl/3013130/19746bd/DM SH-dkots09.zip.html |

Ive had this album for a few weeks - its pretty good and "sounds" just like a Sparklehorse album but obviously without Mark Linkous singing. highlights for me are tracks 1,2,5,8 and 10. The Iggy track is a joke!! |

Yeah it is good Kev. Only got to play it fully last night and after a few listens i think my favourite track so far is the one with the singer from The Shins, track 9. There aren't many duds, though as you say the Iggy one is poor and not hugely gone on track 4 with the guy from The Strokes. I love most things to do with David Lynch, including his music collaborations with Julee Cruise & Angelo Badalamenti but I never heard him sing before, Dark Knight Of The Soul is great, it could easily fit in the soundtrack of Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive. Hope the Wilco album is holding up, I've heard it doesn't register too high on the Cline-ometer which is welcome.. |
