I took your advice Skully and got "Oh my God, Charlie Darwin". Certainly has classic written all over it. I got it 2 days ago and it's been on constant repeat. I'm going to buy the Grizzly Bear album tomorrow so I can't comment on it or another one I want, the Bill Callahan one. I can't get into Animal Collective - a bit too clever clever for me and, when it comes down to it, is it really music???? Seriously!!! I'd also rate the Decemberists "The Hazards of Love" but don't expect any single brilliance like Yankee Bayonet on the Crane Wife. But very good if you do it in a sitting like all concept albums. I'm also starting to dig the new Doves one. A big improvement on Some Cities IMHO. I'm seeing them late July at the Metro in Sydney so I've been comparing it to lots of other Doves too. I could probably claim to be the biggest Church fan here, but the new one is too slight, apart from Happenstance which is possibly the best song of the year so far. Who me? Hyperbole? Then again, I still don't rate Starfish either so you people might love it. |

I don't see to have listened to any new music this year - one of my favourite recent buys was Emily Barker's Despite the Snow, but that was 2008. I'd say this was sad, but it's not exactly unusual for me the last few years, when the only music I've found that I've really loved has been Emily Barker, Laura Veirs and The House of Love - and that was discovered courtesy of this forum. My favourite song of the year has been Not Fair by Lily Allen (who I've hated on principle until now). Great video too. I don't know what you'll make of this; maybe I ought to get out more... |

there has been absolutely no new artist or band this yr, or last or the year before that I would say, i would look forward to their second album, let alone their debut. music is f*ckin dead and gone man, I am telling ye, Long live honest music, wherevere the feck it is, lets get rid of the trillion wannabe pop stars, u f*ck me off, I tell you, there;s more inginuity and honest in one song off of Pining for the fjords by the concubines, than the masss of shite we are subjected to vis tabloids and online and tv media. |

youre getting old mate!! true, you wont find loads of great new music in the tired ol' gtr/bass/drms field, but there are few honourable exceptions out there. Howevah!! A quick visit to places like Boomkat.com and theres loads of great obscure stuff to be found if you have the patience to dig for it. I buy at least 1 CD a week from there, mostly electronic based stuff. Most, if not all of the stuff they stock comes with high quality preview clips so you cant go wrong. Buying a copy of the Wire magazine every month is also a great gateway to new stuff thats off the radar. Dont give up yet Spence, I have enjoyed more new music this last 2 years than I have for most of the last 15 years. 2007 was a watershed year for me in terms of what I listen to now and then. |

Living Things - Habeas Corpus is definitely going to be in my top 20 come year end. Sean Millar's EP could well be number 1. |

I've liked some of the songs from Lost Channels by the Great Lake Swimmers. I'll pick it up soon. |
