Must be an exact translation then Andreas because that is exactly what it is in English! On a (slightly) related note, I was very amused when in Germany to see a shop called Dis und Das! It would be This and That in English of course, which is so similar you can easily see how much of English evolved from the German. |

Given that there is an Atrocity Exhibition taking place in L.A just now taking over every godamned TV station, my song for the day is the classic opener from Joy Division's Closer Asylums with doors open wide, Where people had paid to see inside, For entertainment they watch his body twist Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.' This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. In arenas he kills for a prize, Wins a minute to add to his life. But the sickness is drowned by cries for more, Pray to God, make it quick, watch him fall. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way. This is the way. This is the way. This is the way. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. You'll see the horrors of a faraway place, Meet the architects of law face to face. See mass murder on a scale you've never seen, And all the ones who try hard to succeed. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. This is the way, step inside. And I picked on the whims of a thousand or more, Still pursuing the path that's been buried for years, All the dead wood from jungles and cities on fire, Can't replace or relate, can't release or repair, Take my hand and I'll show you what was and will be. |

Abdullah Ibrahim - Mannenberg Only ever known this in its re-recorded version ("Mannenberg Revisited" on "Water From An Ancient Well"), but the original with Basil Coetzee on sax has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created by mankind. If your soul is not moved by this, you are possibly dead. If your feet do not move to that incredible rhythm you are definitely dead. And I had never realised quite how important it was in the whole complex history of South African music and politics. If you have the time this 22 page academic paper will enlighten you ! http://web.africa.ufl.edu/asq/v9/v9i4a3. pdf |

one of my favourite bands in the early 80s jeff. they evolved from the sheffield scene that included cabaret voltaire who i loved. thirst is probably the best album. they signed to polydor and made an album called advantage which i liked at the time but dont have anymore. spence must remember them? |

Original Love - The Feelies, from Crazy Rhythms This song sounds uncannily like Josef K when they were fast and frenzied, cant believe I never noticed it before. I wonder if either band copied this sound of the other given this was released in 1980, about the same time as the first Josef K tracks were surfacing? Spence? Speaking of Josef K, while channel surfing last night I came across an obscure Gaelic language channel showing some members of Franz Ferdinand, Malcolm Ross and Edwyn Collins strumming an acoustic version of Sorry For Laughing - I think Spence mentioned it last week. It was great, especially given that 3/5ths of the musicians arent up too much. |

Gobees - bye bye pride The version from live in london, is truly superb, a freakin beautiful version of a great song. The whole sound of this cd(s) is so much better than tivoli, the acoustics of the venue shine through better, where as the Tivoli is dead, the mixing desk feed has no life to it, and the sound of theinsteruments os 100 fold better, also backing vox o these cd's are so much more in tune, it captures a great live night, i only wish'd i'd have gone. |
