Inspired by Joe, maybe this thread will ooze the same amount of popularity as my last thread, great outros! Well, in my humble abode these are a few bands/artists who qualify for best looking band in the world today, right now: Associates - Billy mac and Alan Rankine. Alan Rankine esp i always thought looked like an actor, great bone structure and dark handsome good looks, way back when... Throwing Muses, the first incarnation, with Donnelly and Abong. I think Kristin oozed good lookingness...still does today... The Pale Fountains in 1984. Japan circa '82. Pixies - circa '88 The Wolfhounds circa '89 Orange Juice and Josef K. Circa '81. Cave circa '90 The Clash, circa '77 Massive ATtack circa 'now. Monochrome set and The Smiths. TV on the radio. This is ridic, stop! |

defo japan circa polaroids, onwards. pet shop boys circa 90-91 sonic youth. still look great! my bloody valentine prince and the revolution radiohead circa the bends depeche mode circa 86-90 psychocandy-era mary chain manics circa the holy bible the replacements up until 87 or so suede 92-95 yazoo and obviously a whole host of girlgroups that i wont bore you with as it's too easy and i don't want to kill this potentially great thread too soon... ....but the very first incarnation of the sugababes that no one paid attention to and sunk without a trace looked incredible. hot, lazy teen chavettes! |

The Sugarcubes - Never noticed the lads in the band, but those 2 girls, oooooh. The Byrds 65-67 - So very '60's, the clothes were were pure Carnaby St. Bunnymen - Original incarnation, even on the grey album cover. |

The Rolling Stones in 1965/1966 were incomparable as a visual presence. Ditto their covers. Nothing will ever exceed December's Children for its hint of late-night dirty smoky danger. Too bad the odds and sods album inside doesn't live up to the cover. I suppose most of it is down to Andrew Oldham who was a genius when it came to image. I give good marks to the band with the tall guy with funny eyebrows and long face, and the Amazon and the blokey sober-looking dude, especially when they cross-dressed! And it still worked when they inducted the dandy. |

At the risk of repeating some mentioned above, here's my list: Jesus & Mary Chain circa Pscyhocandy - I don't think any band has ever looked cooler than this. VU circa debut album, there's a semi-popular photo of them playing live from this era with Reed playing an electric semi-hollow body, and it was that photo that convinced me that semi-hollow bodies trump EVERY OTHER electric guitar in existence in terms of coolness. The Cramps - Okay, maybe the Cramps looked cooler than JAMC (I've always had a crush on Poison Ivy) The Go-Betweens circa 84-85. That photo on the Man 'o Sand 7" might be the coolest band photo ever taken of anyone. Ever. Felt - Cherry Red era - Oh, that hair!!! Definitely agree with Japan circa 80-82 Birthday Party + 80s-era Bad Seeds Orange Juice - Postcard era (Josef K, too) Aztec Camera - High Land & Postcard era Love - circa first three albums 80s Bunnymen Life-era Cardigans REM - circa Murmur Spence, agreed about the Smiths, but only when Marr's hair was shaggier. |

jerry...i was going to say lips like sugar-era bunnymen. whilst the album itself is kinda tosh, they looked brilliant. i thought lush looked pretty incredible too michael. especially around the time of split (94?) when myki had "that" hair. |

I'm sorry, but in my humble opinion, Sonic Youth *never* looked particularly good. Lush looked great, indeed, particularly after mega-hunk Phil King joined. |

are you kidding me jeff?!?!? i think they're a veritable lava lamp, in terms of my own fixation with their aesthetic anyway. was phil the drummer? one of them suicided out the back of myki's house. was that the same spunk on the back of the hypocrite single? i mean it's awful either way... everyone looks good in black spence! especially if they're got the hair and the snarl to accompany it. plus i intentionally left out all of my fave girlgroups out of sheer consideration! but if you must know... all saints, girls aloud, bananarama circa 84.... *puts a plug in it* |

For me Sonic Youth has a strong image. Don't know why I've never liked their music. Like the Go-Betweens, they've got the timeless look. |

I saw one of the gorgeous girls from Lush sitting on the grass at a festival in Cork in 1995. She was holding hands with her boyfriend who was chubby and not-so-handsome. I wanted to shake his hand for giving hope to us all. |
