Not the best review, annoying in the way Pitchfork writers usually are. Note misquoting of lines from "Darlinghurst Nights":

Yeah I saw that. Unbelievably lazy review. 'Gone are the masturbatory Coldplay-sized string arrangements that plagued the previous two albums'. What strings? I can only think of 'He lives my life'. Did he actually listen to the last 2 albums??? Christ.

Adam Moerder is a nitwit. If you are going to slam a song for poor lyrics, at least get the lyrics correct. Its 'Gut rock cappuccino etc.' not 'Got rock cappacino....'. Especially lazy considering the lyrics are included with the CD.

I don't think that Darlinghurst Nights has a shout-out to Died Pretty.

I guess he didn't realise that Frank Brunetti was (is?) a music journalist and if he did, the lyric would make a lot more sense- maybe.

Interesting humour in his review, though.

I think it's probably an Australian way of saying 'bad' capuccino.

gut rot means stomach ache. It's a British English expression. "that ruby murray gave me gut rot" - that curry gave me stomach ache
