Right I don't know how or if this is going to work, but it could be letting people know places they've just come back from tips and hints. It could also be for asking advice considering we've got a few europeans, a few north americans plus our australasians.

So anyone got holidays planned???

Cheers
Jon

Nothing very exciting planned. Tomorrow, though, I'm leaving for a friend's lakefront house a couple hours away in Michigan to take my dog on his first beach visit. The dog beaches here in town are pretty dirty, so this is his chance to kind of let loose amongst sand and surf for a weekend. Then, in September, fishing in the Upper Peninsula. Actually, I'm pretty excited about that one even if it doesn't involve international travel or pretty French girls.

I'm sure the Upper Peninsula girls are plenty pretty Rob and will be very receptive to your beard and tatts and dog.

And he's also a championship busker, Padraig. It'll be just like that movie...

Padraig, you're right, actually - Chuck wouldn't get a second glance in the UP. I, however - tatless and shorn - am frequently mistaken for a Department of Natural Resources officer. In the UP, that's not cool.

Allen, the idea of busking in the UP gave me a good laugh. Given the population up there, I can't think of a less remunerative pursuit.

I haven't done any serious traveling in about 2 years (last trip was a nice 3.5 weeks in Italy), but I'll be going to Paris for a couple of weeks in October. I've never been, so I'm incredibly excited about it. My brother is living there right now (he's got a year-long engineering job), so I'll be able to stay with him, which will be very cool.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it, Spence! I know how we can get Randy over there: coax Robert Forster into doing a one-off gig that night in London.

Trust me, Jeff. I've been thinking about it. I haven't been to Paris in five years. And meeting Spence would be a hell of a lot of fun.

Michael:

I fish the Cisco chain in Watersmeet.

Mmm, smoked whitefish and pasties. Something for the food thread....

I holidayed in Ireland this year, haven't been on a big break since before the birth of my first daughter. That trip was four weeks in Mexico and Guatemala in 2005.

It might be interesting to list where we've travelled/favourite destinations etc.

Rob,

I canoed the eastern branch of the Ontonagon river for a day and the middle branch for two days way back in the early 80's. We rented the canoe from a outfitter located in Watersmeet. I had my first taste of Glenffdich at Paul's in Silver City.

Watersmeet was briefly famous for an ESPN ad series that featured the town's football team, whose name is the Nimrods. I think there might have been a documentary about them, too. Not surprisingly, the town hasn't changed much since you were up there, Michael.
