What a fantastic album that was/is, Robert's finest. Anyone else like it? Now I reckon with all the worthy attention the reformed Gobees are getting it'd be great if the music world salutes this lost classic, get it rereleased with loads of extra shit too, it really is truly original. Get Heart out to tender on the new Vodafone ad, get Leave here satisfied on Match of The day fottie clips, Baby Stones too, you could get that on Changing Rooms surely, exploit the fu*@in album to death, it deserves it, we all deserve it, aghhhh help me! From the sleeve concept to the typography to the warm and sometimes haunting melodies, you'll never find a more well crafted batch of songs this side of Dylan, that is - mr Robert Forster's - Danger in the Past. Now anyone for a Pimms and a Hamlet whilst Mr McLennan's Horsebreaker Star resides in the background?

I am a great fan of the solo albums. I think it was valuable for both Robert and Grant to have the opportunity to develop separately for a while. I would love it if the GoBees would choose something other than "Baby Stones" to play in a show. They did "121" in Paris two years ago and that was great. I'd like to hear the title song "Danger in the Past." Or, since he seems to be so contented in his life nowadays, perhaps a nice simple version of "Justice" as an encore.

Spencer, I hope your comment about "Horsebreaker Star" means that you like it though I'm not sure. That album's come in for some knocks on here and I think it is a permanent classic. I admit that it benefits from the paring down that it got for American release. But what a combo of songs and arrangements!

I miss the solo work and I look forward to more in the future. I agree, I think DITP is the best of the lot. I love the multi-layered meaning of the title and the lyrics are some of Robert's best. When I married later in life, I immediately thought of I've been looking for somebody. Timeless album.

I agree totally with this praise heaped on DITP. For me, the best version of 'Baby Stones' ever was that played at (I think) his first solo gig in London. Massive organ sound (courtesy of Baby You Know?) and I thought that this was the nearest I would ever come to Dylan at the Albert Hall! 'I've been looking for somebody' should have been covered by Morrisey. Still could be.

Yes, it is truly great. Played it again recently and was impressed but how well it all stands up 15 years after I bought it. Calling from a Country Phone kind of relegated it from my play list, as the latter album was just so much fun. Forster's live gigs around that time - 93 ish, were a hoot. Frankly, they were more fun than the RF /GM duo shows I saw in 94. At the Zoo in Brisbane, two women got up on stage and were 60s-style dancing to the song Danger in the Past. He was clearly enjoying himself a great deal...

Great! Fantastic praise I agree with you all, well put. Country Phone is a kind of quiet album, but its kinda cute and should not be forgotten i guess, New york Girlfriend, again, a class list there, I'm afraid sadly overlooked. And yes Randy i love horsebreaker star, its a great driving around england with that on, stuff the production that people have a problem with, I really like it.
