My first posting to this site. Been a fan for years – a friend of mine put me on to them – I don’t remember with which track or album which now seems sacrilegious or does it just prove how bloody great their body of work is (at least to my listening apparatus). Saw GoBs in Zurich on Thurs. Really excellent. Small venue so was right up the front and got some sweet snaps. Sound was mostly very good - loved hearing those acoustic guitars. This is the only way to see a band. The setlist spanned their career nicely and the new ones fitted in snugly (I have been ODing on OA for the last week in preparation for the gig!). RF was around afterwards and was very friendly & chatty indeed - signed a few albums for me and quite a few others. Best album: Probably Tallulah is the one that has given me the biggest kick (and still does). "Don't you think that for once in your life he could walk without a crutch" or "A teenage Rasputin takes the sting from a gin" and the soul of the voice singing these words...! But they have fantastic songs on every album. I'm a bigger fan of Grant than Robert - Grant's solo track Lighting Fires on Fireboy is superb - how was it not a monster hit everywhere.... |

Saw them in Zurich, too, John. You're so right about the size of venues here. It's a real privilege to see bands in such an intimate space. It was a pity that the typical Zurich "coolness" was in evidence from where I was standing (I was a bit further back than you). Went the next day to the Muehle Hunziken and it was really special. Great audience! And the band burned! (As a "Tallulah" fan - as I am myself - what do you think of the rocked up version of "Bye Bye Pride" they're playing?) |

Hi Graeme - funny I found the audience pretty good at Kaufleuten - I thought Robert and Grant didn't say a lot because of the language barrier (though Robert must have a few words after living in Germany). Still, sounds like I should have gone to the Muehle. Bye Bye Pride - great - the chorus was pure bliss to my ears. Right Here was brilliant too - I waved my crutch (I'm on the bloody things at the moment) when Grant sang that great line but the blind bastards didn't notice. |
