Magazine are on Later with Jools Holland tonight. I think the show tonight is live as it happens and is a half hour taster for the main programme on Friday which is one hour but recorded. So it will be one song tonight, and two songs on Friday. My money is on The Light...., and Song from under the floorboards. Hopefully our overseas bretheren can catch this on BBCi player. |

I actually felt sorry for noko (must've felt some pressure to live up the Geogh's greatness), but he's a really nice guy, a great guitarist, has worked with Devoto on and off for over 20 years and has an exceptional pedigree, combined with the fact that I had lived with sounds of Magazine in my head since being a wee boy and he did, along with the rest of the band, a mighty fine job in delevering the goods in the most authentic way possible, given the McGeogh circumstances. |

John Doyle looks much better without the tie and suit, he looked a 100 years old and like he'd just come back from his own funeral when me and Jon met him at the aftershow party! He looks much fresher and loose and with it! Superb drummer, nowt flash, just brick solid. Loved his work esp on Secondhand daylight, he was an important ingredient in the whole grey euro noir funked up industrial pop voyueristic weirdness!!!! |

just finished watching the extended version of later..., 3 songs and an interview, never expected that, normally only 2 songs isnt it? so, in addition to shot by both sides it was song from under the floorboards and the light pours out of me. each song was great but shot... was the highlight for me. barry adamson still rocking the undertaker look, nobody but him could be cool enough to wear that hat and pull it off. jeff, randy, you've got to see this on bbci player if its available in the us. |

Which BBC channel should I be looking for? I've been scrolling through the iPlayer but I haven't found it. The show is called "Later with Jools Holland?" |

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping Kevin. But I'll bet the resolution is much better on the Beeb site. Sigh. If the issue is money--that I haven't paid your TV tax--I'd gladly sign up as an online subscriber to the Beeb. All the stuff you folks take for granted is stuff I'd really like to see. I haven't turned on my American television since the 2008 presidential election. |

Kevin, thanks for posting those! Considering how visual Adamson and Devoto are, I'd be totally ok with Noko if he'd not color the gray out of his hair and drop the silly jewelry and the colored fingernails. He can keep the same leather-daddy gay bar hair (which I swear he's combed and glued toward the middle to cover up a bald spot--jesus, just cut it!) and goatee and he can keep chewing the gum--which entertained me--and he's played the McGeoch bits for years so he does it well. He just needs to back off on the weird glitz so that he fits in visually. Aside from that cavil they all looked and sounded magnificent. Doyle was working so hard I worried for his heart. I should work out an interface between my computer and my hifi. |

Thanks for the links, Kevin. Was nice to watch these after a long day of walking/wandering around Paris. That interview was awkward! Noko can keep his black nail polish; I just don't like the mullet part of his little hairdo, and the long fu-manchu-styled goutee is a bit weird. He looks a bit like a villain in some bad, late night, Russian, made-for-TV crime movie. But the band is rock solid. They sound positively awesome. I'd love to see them live, in person. Fat chance of that. But they sound so incredibly good here that the lack of "success" just seems all the more baffling. Oh, and I want Adamon's bass! |
