For those interested, a few of us will be at a bar close to Mercury Lounge from 6:00 on Friday until 8:30 / 9:00 (band on at 10:30 according to Mercury Lounge web site) if you want to put faces to names on this board (and on the Tallulah Go-Betweens mailing list). We are meeting at: The Magician 118 Rivington St. (Lower East Side) 212-673-7881 New York Metro has this to say about it: Perhaps it's the popular conviction that magicians (read: David Blaine) are aesthetically unappealing that keeps this pleasant tavern so empty -- particularly strange given its location smack in the middle of the Lower East Side entertainment zone. But that just means there are more heavy, old-fashioned wooden office chairs for the rest of us. The décor is roughly L.A. noir: venetian blinds in the front windows and Raymond Chandler- appropriate overhead office lamps. Keeping it from being some irritating set piece is the jukebox, stacked with eighties sad-teen music like the Cure and the Smiths. |
