Not sure if this has been discussed on here before, but I was wondering if anyone know who the characters in ‘Darlinghurst Nights’ are? I suppose Frank Brunetti is the easy one. But I wonder if anyone knows ‘Joe’, ‘Marjorie and Kim’, ‘Andy and Clint’, ‘Debbie’ and ‘Bertie’ are, or if indeed, they are on this site? In struck me that the song could in fact be RF’s ‘walk on the wild side’ – real people, world weary remembrance of Sydney etc. |

I mentioned this in a thread somewhere else on this board, but seeing that no one's filled in the blanks for you, here it is. Joe- Joe Borkowski, bass player in the Poles, Out of Nowhere and the Apartments. Part of the Corinda-Oxley-Inala scene (in the western suburbs of Brisbane) of the mid-70s and took many of the early Saints photographs. Marjorie- Marjorie Macintosh helped Clinton Walker with his soon to be re-published book, Inner City Sound, and was a band photographer. Kim- Kim O'Brien- girlfriend of Jeffrey Wegener, drummer from the Laughing Clowns. Andy- Andrew Wilson of the ToeSuckers, Four Gods, Frontier Scouts. Check out his Amateurism CD available on Melbourne label, Chapter Music. Went to high school with Forster. Clint- Clinton Walker, who lived with Andrew Wilson around 1983. Author extraordinaire. Debbie- Debbie Auchinachie- sang backing vocals with the Frontier Scouts on their 'When Daddy Blows His Top' single. A friend of Wilson's. Bertie- Bertie was Clinton Walker's wife. |

But who was Suzy that, "we never ever saw again"? I guess it doesn't really matter for those who didn't know those people. I don't know about others, but the moment I heard that fantastic song, I started to put in my own characters from around the same time when I was doing Uni in Armidale. I too have a Suzy that I have never seen again. |

The list of names in "Darlinghurst Nights" reminded me of The Zombies' "Friends of Mine" from Odessey & Oracle. |

It's interesting that almost all (perhaps all?) of the people in the song are transplanted Brisbaneites. As far as I'm aware when the GoBs moved to Melbourne for that brief period of recording SMAL they mainly mixed with Melbourne people. But in Sydney it seems they mixed with Brisbane people. |
