Great work Rob! It was an A+ show. Satisfying on every level. Can't wait for tonight's follow-up out in Brooklyn. |

Agree. Was really Great !!! Sound got beeter after few songs. My highlight was Cloud. Ideally , I would have liked to hear on top Bachelor Kisses and Part Company....but was OK given the show...untill I put the Barbican CD this morning on and find out that they had been playing Baby Stones on tour.......... I had not heard it for years and remembered how much I loved this song . |

They played Baby Stones last night at Southpaw. Although the A/C wasn't up to the challenge, the band were... looser and harder. If anything we enjoyed Saturday's show more than Friday's, but they were both A+. Go-Betweens weekend was a smashing success! |

What great shows. I had the pleasure of meeting Robert outside Southpaw while the second support act was playing. The friend I was with is from Stavanger in Norway and he mentioned how much he likes Norway and wants to tour Scandinavia soon. I'm writing my PhD on William Hazlitt at Columbia and he spoke about his love of Keats and the Romantic poets. I think I managed to sell Hazlitt to him as well. He mentioned that he'd been up to Columbia earlier in the week to visit the West End (Kerouac's drinking hole). He was very warm and charming. It was delightful. Made my night. |

Fantastic photography! Esp the older GB's pics, Robert Vickers looking straight outta The Byrds, he launched a million impersonators with that look I can tell ya! nice too to see early XTC, you'd never think Andy Partridge suffered stage fright by looking at these pics, pity such a great band would never tour again. Anhow, nice pics and nice gallery., ta. |

Jelena, Robert said the heel fell off one of his shoes backstage so he asked if it was OK to play barefoot rather than stand lopsided... a funny moment early in the show. |

I was trying to remember, and I thought that it might have been one of the following: a. Introducing a sequel to I Need Two Heads; b. displaying what he caught fishing earlier in the East River; c. realized that everyone in Brooklyn goes around barefoot; d. just cooling off, because the club air conditioning had broken down; e. these were the shoes used on The Wrong Road; f. soliciting a charitable contribution for the family of the CD mastering engineer, who was recently sacked; g. circumventing an electrical grounding problem with his guitar. - |

Hello everyone. I'm new here and this is my 1st post. My name is Matt. Now onto what I want to post about: Err, I thought the answer was g. At least that's what my friend who was with me said to me after the show (I couldn't make out the reasoning behind Robert taking his shoes off). Oh and Rob, do you mind if I post a hyperlink to your Southpaw pictures on my blog? Please let me know one way or the other. Either way, thanks for posting them here! Matt |

Matt, feel free to do so (and thanks for asking). BTW, what's the URL of your blog? And truth be told, Matt, the answer WAS g., at least that's the way Robert began explaining it. Seemed like a dangerous (and ineffective) way to fix a grounding problem, but he has a helluva lot more experience onstage playing a guitar than I do. And, as Guy's explanation indicated, good at pulling the leg of gullible folks like me. - |

I think I'd want to wear very thick-soled shoes if the ground was not working. Very thick indeed. |

Exactly. And that's only part of it. Imagine: 1. House sound has grounding problem. 2. You are all sweaty from thrashing around onstage (or the A/C is off). 3. Touch electric guitar strings with left hand. 4. Touch microphone with lips (or grab with other hand). Game over. - |
